One of the first things I read this morning was an article on the top ten riskiest places to be during the latest Covid outbreak. Which means places that make the spread much easier. Most include places where lots of people are together indoors.
So a later article from the Edwardsville Intelligencer had me dumbfounded and wondering about all the mixed messages we get from the news. This headline read: "Fishing Catches on for Thousands in Collinsville." This past weekend a fishing show was held at the Gateway Center and that brought in the thousands. The story made this seem like a good thing, fishing is now really popular and those who attended were thrilled.
Frankly, even though I am no expert on contagion, this seems way over the top for safety. I am aware of how many of us are now pretty tired of restrictions and warnings, but the number of rising cases should give us pause.
No question about it, sporting events, convention center events, i.e. fishing shows, bridal shows are all spreaders. The all mighty dollar determines the decisions, unless the Governor mandates restrictions, which he may do, but he has been harshly criticized by the GOP for the last 2 years. It is an infringement on their freedom to allow everyone to get sick.

It seems as though it should make us as individuals to use common sense and avoid this sort of thing. And, the Center might have been more cautious in how many people they allowed in there.

Common sense does not apply to the majority of the population any more. Almighty dollar determines the capacity of the event center, not common sense. Only mandates by higher officials will control use of space, etc..

For most of last year, many of us called for the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to release its data on reinfection rates, but the agency refused. Finally last week, the CDC released data from New York and California, which demonstrated natural immunity was 2.8 times as effective in preventing hospitalization and 3.3 to 4.7 times as effective in preventing Covid infection compared with vaccination.
