Living in Collinsville we are back under the flight path for planes coming and going to Scott Air Force in Mascoutah. Certain days of the week have more landings than others and the planes come over us fairly low. These are huge planes, tankers and other types I don't decifer. They often fly right over our house and the other day I wanted a photo of at least one of them and sat outside waiting.
We hear them before they suddenly appear from the north and west. You'd think I'd have time to get a picture in the perfect spot away from trees but while they seem to be moving slowly they are not. This is the only picture I could halfway get on Friday afternoon. In real life these things are monster big.
A refueler. See the bar extended at the end. That is the pipe that connects and transfers fuel to the other plane.

That is the same thing Dale said, he looked at the end pipe too.

I believe that a number of years ago, politicians like Dick Durbin got an Illinois Air National Guard Unit transferred from Chicago to Scott Air Force Base. The Unit helped keep SAFB as a functional air base, rather than just a Command(s) Center and assured SAFB would not be closed. The unit provides the fuel re-fueling. You can see the planes when you play golf at Cardinal Creek Golf Course on the base.
