Your kids are never to old for us not to worry about them and yesterday was one of those days. It was late afternoon and I turned on cable news. The reporting was coming from Washington DC around the Capital with news that there was the start of more protests and streets were being blocked etc. Then I get a text from Katie who said she had to go into her senate office because there was some work or meetings that had to be done through the early evening. I could not believe that anyone in senate offices would call a meeting during this violent time, especially in the evening. Please don't go I begged her. But no.
She texted me when she arrived and said the police let her park right up by the senate building. Great, but the crowd was growing and the president was drawing lots of media and protesters. Her belief was that the police would be around when it was time for her to leave so she could drive out for home. I never heard how that drive through the District went when she left, but I did hear that she got home.
I'm almost dizzy from all the violence and vitriol and crazed partisanship going on right now.
