Lunch in the park

The seminary had lunch in the park today, inviting as special guests, the men working on the Koburg renovations.  The staff and students ate outside as well.

Oh, and Ferdie too, he works on grounds.  Here he chats with Dan, the construction manager. 

The construction guys really work through all kinds of weather, including hot.

Ferdie again, this time begging from the guys.  Who I have to say, called him over.

Staff, Ruth wanted a doggie fix.

And the food line.  We've had Fenniger's catering all summer since the kitchen has been torn up and they've been troopers, bringing 3 really good meals a day to students and special events. 

It surprises me to say this but

Today I like Mark Halperin more than I ever thought I would. 

He apologized for what some would say was brutal honesty.  I'd say it anyway.

Giving it to the pres in the NYT's

Boy, Maureen Dowd really has the claws out in this column about the mixed messages Obama sends.

Long overdue and possibly a good column for rep presidential hopefuls to file away for future use. 

So we should have seen this coming?

Pat Gauen writing in the Post-Dispatch gives a scathing rundown of Rod Blagojevich's personal and professional failures.  He believes we should have seen this coming.

Well.

Where were all our intrepid state political writers and editorial writers during the 2008 election when Blago was re-elected? 

Why was everyone so quiet when "they must have known".  Why was Judy Baar Topinka given such short shrift in the endorsements?

Sure, we would have seen this coming if the people charged with reporting had been doing their jobs.

 

We approve of red light cameras

According to a survey by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety shows that the majority of drivers in big cities approve of red light cameras.

The largest approval percentage comes from Washington DC, a city with the most cameras watching people than any other.  This surprises me.

St. Louis, at least, has people who still fight the cameras.

Christian graduates from pre-school

Wow. Robes and everything today. Christian with his teacher, his rose and his brother who brought his blankie.

Illinois Is the last unarmed state

Now that Wisconsin is allowing concealed carry Illinois is the only state which does not allow it. This shocks me. 49 states let you carry a concealed gun.

About that sagging pants issue

To everyone all on fire about "Collinsville Considering Outlawing Sagging Pants". No matter how many headlines and discussions on local talk radio and Facebook and Twitter there have been on this topic the past 36 hours, there is no story here. One councilman brought it up. Everyone else declined any interest. The headlines and sound bites are mere attention grabbers and nothing else.

Time to stock up

Is it hoarding to consider filling the pantry with Coca Cola right now?  Coke is on sale most places this week in the lead up to 4th of July picnics.

Coca Cola will be raising prices 3-4% in July.  July is next week.  Guess we'll be taking advantage of the sale prices this week.  Shop and Save has a good price and Schnucks has a really good price, 3 six packs of the 2 ounce bottles for 7.98. 

Old tree new wood

The new covered entry to Koburg Hall at Concordia Seminary is in the process of being constructed. The best part is that the wood being used was milled and planed from campus trees which fell or were taken down.
