There's nothing more interesting than spending part of a day at Soulard Market and with one week to go until Mardi Gras, you see beads and hats and necklaces and people walking around with a drink in their hands, and tents with music, grills cooking, and of course the fruits and vegetables.
What's not to love about this?
Or this? I'd never wear a top hat of any color, but these are so fun.
Mardi Gras items are for sale all over and not expensive either.
But I came for spices and vegetables and fruit.
Oh look, a summer-ish feel.
Bought one of these as did just about everyone who walked past this stand. It's like we could will warm weather just by eating one of these adorable watermelons.
The have Lamb, Goat and Pork.
And,
Lunch meats, smoked meats and cajun meats. Lunch meat. That's such a Chicago term. Most of the time I hear St. Louisans call it, Deli meat. But lunch meat, well, I hear my dad saying he was going out for lunch meat. Chicago. It's kind of like bismarcks. In St. Louis they're called jelly donuts.
Anyway, I wanted to go to the Spice Shop. If you've never been in the Soulard Spice shop, you really need to experience it just once. Or once a week. Right in the middle of the market, this place has wonderfully smelling and tasting spices and a lot of them and a very low price. They do a huge business. As they should.
A wall of various spices.
And counters full of individual spices. The hard part is choosing, you want them all. Trust me, you do want them all.
