We went to the Cardinals game last night. They won, it was a nice evening.
We don't get time to go to many games so we like to get hot dogs and nachos while we watch. And, we know we'll pay ridiculous prices for the food.
We could accept the prices if the hot dogs were hot or even warm. But they weren't. Cool is what they were. The toppings on the nachos could be said to have been cold. I got the nachos with everything, including a sort of beef chili. cold. I had to push that meat off before eating.
We hear so much about keeping hot foods hot and cold foods cold, but not at Busch Stadium. At least not last night.
Even Dale who will normally eat anything put in front of him as long as there is enough of it commented after his first bit of a brat, "The brat is cold, how is your hot dog?" "The same."
When you pass the food counters you always see and smell the dogs and brats cooking. A small grill with a few being cooked. After last night I am of the opinion that those grills are just props to make the smell get you into line.
When we ordered the woman immediately reached under the counter and pulled out the brats and hot dog already paper wrapped from, I assume, a box of some sort. Dale also ordered fries and they didn't even pretend to be warm.
Very disappointing. Makes us long for those Chicago baseball stadiums, Cubs and White Sox, where hot dogs are a way of life and no one would ever try to serve you a cold one. Unless it was a beer.
Next time we'll either not eat at Busch or we'll try the small umbrella topped kiosks selling Kosher dogs. At least they appear to being cooked on the spot.
