Ferdie to Bob

  • Boojferd
Dear Bob, here are some photos of my life here on the campus of Concordia Seminary. I love kids, working with the grounds crew, swimming, playing with my dog friends, and especially my own family people.

Looks like the states and local governments will have to do what millions of citizens are doing. Tighten their belts and prioritize spending. When the economy was strong, why didn't they put some money in reserve?
Some states and local governments did this and they are doing just fine.

I understand that gas taxes, based on a per gallon tax, will go down with less gas purchased. And probably these gases are earmarked for specific highway needs.
But with sales taxes calculated on a percent of the price, the states should be experiencing a windfall with gas prices near double what they were a year ago. And with the price of gas causing the price of everything else to go up, the states are just making that much more on sales tax.
Ron, you're more in tune to these things than I am; am I wrong?

You are correct. The State of Illinois has collected hundreds of millions of dollars in extra revenue the last few years. The Governor has chosen to divert about 40% of ALL the revenue collected form gas taxes to other pet projects.
Therefore, there is less money availble for transportation projects. The State of Illinois does not have the money available right now to fund the new bridge.
Missouri is just being more honest about its position than Illinois.
Diane should be going after Illinois, since they are making promises they can't keep.
