That is how the Washington Post described Senator Joe Lieberman during his concession speech last night, as he acknowledged the victory of Ned Lamont in the democratic primary. He was exuberant in telling his supporters that he would go all out to win the November election as an independent candidate.
Lamont won the primary, but Lieberman is this morning's story. All of which makes for interesting political news, but from where I sit, I see a man who for his own physical and emotional well being simply must take the time to grieve over his loss. Lieberman seems upbeat and ready for a fight, but losing a party election, a party he has served for many years, is a huge blow to the ego and also to the body. He hoped to win, but planned for a loss. But the loss needs time to work its way through the mind and heart.
Take care Joe. Take time to grieve and then come back full bore.
this is good news for the country and for lieberman. when he is elected in the fall as an independent, he will caucus with the democrats. since they abandoned lieberman, their one time vice presidential candidate, he will truly be able to be independent on issues when he wants to. he can speak out on issues and other democrats will be less likely to criticize him. a good sign for the country, if more candidates ran as independents and were not obligated to the party bosses. prediction! look for mccain/lieberman ticket in 08.

I've found it takes about six months to recover from an election loss.
