Blunt v McCaskill

Meanwhile over in Missouri, where has Claire McCaskill gone? During the primary she was everywhere, now nowhere. Her opponent, Matt Blunt, is very visible. The reports after the primary must have been correct, she used way too much money to defeat Gov. Holden and now is playing catch up.

Madison County Races

In these parts Labor Day means the beginning of election campaigning especially for those involved in local races. The Madison County Board elections will be hard fought this year with challengers having an even shot at taking seats away from long time office holders. If incumbents will speak to issues rather than being irritated over having an opponent Madison County will have an election to really watch.

Firefighters for...Bush

Interesting bit at the RNC tonight which was probably only seen by those watching on CSPAN. The Milwaukee Firefighter's Local 215 was featured live with their president, Greg Gracz speaking on behalf of President Bush. Gracz's last sentence was, "The greatest compliment we can pay to another firefighter is that 'I would walk into a burning building with you.'" "Mr. President, we will walk....with you." (Some paraphrasing) Nice juxtaposition to the senator from Massachusetts and his quiet firefighters for Kerry.

Jack Ryan drops as delegate

According to the Chicago Sun-Times, former Senate candidate Jack Ryan as given up his delegate spot at the GOP convention and requested he be replaced by Alan Keyes. Seems this won't be possible as rules state the official alternate be credentialed. Keyes could be named as alternate, however. Doesn't seem likely.

Bush to rain on delegates

According to today's Chicago Tribune, falling confetti at the RNC will be embossed with pictures of Bush and Cheney as well as their wives. Anyone from the Southern Illinois delegation or even the Missouri delegation reading this, could you bring us back a couple pieces of this? Please?

Kerry daughters on MTV

John Kerry's daughters made an appearance on the MTV awards last night and were greeted with as many boos as cheers. This unexpected reaction has not really made many news wires and if it does it will be interesting to see how it is explained away.

Farewell to Athens 2004

Will any competitor leave Athens having found the immortality the ancient Greeks strived for? The Olympic anthem certainly aims for it. What is still the same is Homer's "wine, dark sea" which surrounds the islands of Greece.
