Some might say the Collinsville Jaycees are dogging it today...
They're spending Super Bowl Sunday frying and spicing up and selling thousands of chicken wings in an effort to raise funds for the construction of a dog park in the city. It appears as though many in the community want this project to succeed because as of 9:30 this morning, the organization had pre-orders for over 2000 wings. Barking right, over 2000 wings and that is just pre-orders.
A couple of the guys are spending the day outside in the cold doing the frying. I wish this photo had smell, because the parking lot was live with the smell of cooking wings.
Inside, Scott Rushing, Sandy Sweet, Michelle Voegele, and Scott Rayho go over the orders and wait for those coming to take them home.
Jaycee Board chairman, Geno Forneris, takes a break from frying to see how things are going inside.
Ruth cook and Jaycee vice president of community development, Scott Rushing, stir the hot sauce.
Ed Cook, Sandy Sweet and Scott Rushing get ready to fill another carry out order.
A dog park in Collinsville is one of the better ideas to come along in quite some time. It looks like lots of people agree. One person who called in a pre-order this week said that no one in her family will likely eat the wings, but she felt so strongly about this project she wanted to buy some wings to support it anyway. Best guess? Some neighbors will be the beneficiary of those wings.
If you didn't have the chance to get wings today, keep your ear to the ground, the Jaycees will probably be doing some other fund raising for the dog park as the weeks and months go by. They will be at the Jaycee Hall all day long cooking and handling the orders and remain there during the evening for their annual Super Bowl party.
The Jaycees locally as well as nationally have always been in the forefront of support for projects which benefit the entire community. This is a great one.
