Boy there are a lot of bug issues this year. I wanted to say summer instead of 'year', but it's still officially Spring. We've been overrun with biting gnats and now we're seeing a lot of moths. I don't remember moths being around where we are much in other years. But Maine has us beat in the bug department. They're having to put digital signs on roadways warning the roads are slippery due to an over abundance of Forest Tent caterpillars
One man wrote: " The road is stained yellow from cars squashing them, the air stinks, and apparently the road is slippery enough to warrant a DOT warning when it rains," Bill Leonard wrote on Facebook. "I've never seen anything like it and I assume it can only be a sign of end times."
Caterpillars eat the Oak leaves, often to the point of decimating the trees and when one section of trees are nearly de-nuded, the bugs move on to other areas. This should end by the end of this month. Who knew so many caterpillars live among us?
