This past Saturday we sat in the heat and watched our grandson compete in the Missouri Lutheran State track meet. It brought back memories of all the years we sat and watched our daughter do the same thing. Then on Sunday morning I took Ferdie on an early morning walk before we left for church. We went down our street and home through the back so I could see how things were growing behind our fence.
Suddenly something moving caught my eye along the top of the fence. It was a raccoon! He was heading toward the waterfall. Seriously! We have never seen a raccoon here on the campus, possums, yes, squirrels, all manner of birds, even deer, but never a raccoon. Ferdie saw him just after I yelled at it and began the chase which ended near our shed and the disappearance of the raccoon. I don't know where he went but was just relieved Ferdie didn't corner him and get his eyes scratched out.
So wouldn't you just know it. My Facebook "On this day" link brought up a post I put up on our raccoon problem in Collinsville from two years ago today. May 16, 2016. It had a picture of a raccoon in our Collinsville back yard who was caught in a trap in our yard. Funny thing about that day, Ferdie was very interested in checking out that creature in the cage until it gave an angry hiss and aimed its sharp claws at him. He headed back to the deck.
I had my phone with me Sunday but was too frightened for Ferdie to even think of getting a picture.
Some things have a way of coming back.
