Scottish D-Day veteran Jock Hutton is spending the 70th anniversary of that invasion of France by parachuting into the same field he jumped into in 1944. Hutton is 89. "We were jumping from 500 feet so there was no point in a reserve chute,” he remembers. “If the main hadn’t opened – well - goodnight."
Gosh! 500 feet is less than two football fields! The good thing is Hutton will be jumping in tandem with a young paratrooper, but the stories do not say if they will jump from only 500 feet.
American Normandy paratrooper, 93 year old Jim Martin will be doing the same.
This reminds of of one of the men in our church, Chuck Van Gilder. He too parachuted into France just ahead of the D-Day invasion. Brave men.
