There is now an East St. Louis speed camera between the 55/70-64 merge and the Poplar Street Bridge. I'm guessing this is something new, activated since the Musial Veterans Bridge was completed. It's an area that is about the only place that puts speeds at 50mph.
East St. Louis is going to have a windfall of speed camera revenue from this one until people catch on because unless it's rush hour, no one is going 50 through there. In the good old days of troopers sitting in the median using physical radar guns, drivers were usually ok if they were part of the general flow of traffic. Now with the camera, just about everyone going over 50 may find a ticket in the mail.
The reason I know this is the Man About the House received one yesterday which was a shock since he isn't typically someone who zooms along on the highway.
So just an FYI for anyone going west toward the Poplar...probably east in Illinois as well...watch your spedometer no matter how mad you make the people behind you. Doesn't matter whether you eventually use 64 or continue on 55/70, it's altogether for this camera.
