While walking Ferdie this morning I ran into one of our staff people who is one of the most mild mannered of men, rarely gets upset. He told me it took him forever today to get from his home in Fairview Heights to the campus and he left really early. Last night it took him an hour and a half to get home, half an hour spent sitting still and going no where in the exit lane to 64 west of the merge with 55/70. He finally decided to slip into the 55 lane and head for Collinsville and then 159 to Fairview.
There really is no good reason for IDOT to be constantly working on the same area of 64 in Illinois, year after year after year. It's one thing to believe the roads will be great when done, but they're never done and each year commuters spend way too much time sitting in jams. It's all about money. IDOT has it and they're darn well going to keep doing things in order to keep the money flowing. At the very least there should be some way to allow the rush hour hours to be cleared of all that work stuff. It'll be a miracle if some year drivers from Illinois can actually go straight over to St. Louis without stopping.
