It was played at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on January 15, 1967 and pitted the Green Bay Packers against the Kansas City Chiefs. The original game name was the NFL-AFL World Championship Game or the Super Game and was the only Super Bowl game that did not sell out. It was also the only game to be broadcast by two networks, NBC and CBS who's main announcers also had to share the trophy presentation duty-Pat Summeral (CBS and George Ratterman NBC)

The half time show was performed by the University of Arizona Symphonic Marching Band, Grambling State Marching Band, Al Hirt and the Anaheim High School Drill Team.
