If it were my birthday, we'd go out for dinner to give me a break from the incessant making of supper, night after night after night. But since he never cooks and it's going to be dark and wet and dreary outside tonight, we'll stay in which will suit him just fine. And that's ok, it's his birthday.
But, what to fix? I thought about steaks, however, our outside grill is topped with, and surrounded by, piles of snow and ice which slid off the roof. Grilling steak or any meat inside is out of the question since we do not have a stove vent which carries the cooking smoke outside. We have a vent but it goes up and right back out the vents in the microwave and into the room. Fry or grill meat which smokes like crazy and the house fills up with smoke in a matter of minutes. I could shut the door which leads from the kitchen to the rest of the house, open the back kitchen door and bring in a small fan to blow the smoke out, but it's too cold.
Ha. So I think I'll do a Coq au Vin, chicken in wine with some vegetables. Basically a French chicken stew. I got this for Christmas, I love it because you can do about anything in it. Now's the chance to give it a work out.
