An incisive discussion by Mollie Hemingway of our news media and their unwillingness to call a baby a baby when reporting on...babies. The other day an AP report on a NYC security guard in Victoria's Secret discovered a "dead fetus" in the shopping bag of a teenaged girl. She told him she had delivered the day before and didn't know what to do.
A delivered being is a baby not a fetus. As Mollie pointed out it is common practice among news people to consider the term "illegal alien" dehumanizing, but they take care not to humanize a human baby whether unborn or in this case, already born. Why?
"But we have to deal with reality. And calling a dead baby in a bag a “fetus” obscures more than informs."
