October 31, 1517, Martin Luther set things in motion by hanging his 95 theses on the Castle church door in Wittenberg Germany.
To Lutherans, and I'd hope many others, this day is of much more significance than Halloween.

Pope Leo X was a non-priest pope. Apparently just wanted to build the Vatican and strengthen the Medici (Florence) stronghold. He needed to sell indulgences to pay for St. Peters. A child was the Pope and had not clue about religion, in my view.
