Thomas Jefferson in his memoirs: "But the only security of all is in a free press. The forces of public opinion cannot be resisted when permitted freely to be expressed. The agitation it produces must be submitted to. It is necessary, to keep the waters pure."
While we have a free press, we don't have a neutral press these days. Any objection or tough question to the current administration is met with full on antagonism, often aided by journalists. And, by some counts there have been at least 15 former jounalists who went to work in the Obama White House. Plus Jay Carney's wife Claire Shipman the senior national correspondent for Good Morning America on ABC.
I harp on the favoratism shown to the president by the press, the defering and refusal to ask the tough questions and even the help given him by the press when someone once in a while asks a tough question. And still he wants to quiet the conservative blogs and radio people. This is not a good precedent.
Mark Halperin, senior political analyist for MSNBC tweeted today "Let's all just acknowledge the media failed to ask enough (and the correct) questions for months about the tech piece of Obamacare."
