Well, sad to report that as in every other year, the new born ducklings did not make it. Predators got them within 12 hours of their hatching. The excitement of seeing the fuzzy baby ducks ends with sadness and frustration that they cannot be protected from hawks and owls and squirrels and crows.
Many of us here at the seminary are still checking the fountain pond hoping against hope they've just been hiding in the reeds, but it's been 3 days without a sighting so it's pretty likely they did not make it. Nature up close can be very cruel.

Sad. We often talk about scooping them all up along with the mother and driving them over to the Forest Park Boathouse lake where there would be safety in numbers.
