Have you noticed how aggressively Schnuck's has been marketing themselves recently? They have a weekly "meal deal" in which you buy one thing and get several other things free. They have Wednesday Wow coupons just for that day. And, on Friday's they offer a "Drive time" special for Friday night meals which is usually several items for around 4 dollars. This week they are tripling all coupons 75 cents and under.
All of which is good for the food shopper and good for Schnucks. And, they've added another twist to get you in their stores-beer tastings for the next two weeks. Individual stores will take turns offering tastes of various craft beers. The list of days and times for the stores is here. Oddly I do not see any of the Illinois Schnucks' taking part in this, but seeing the date for the Richmond Center store, I have made a note to not go there this Sunday. That store is the busiest in the chain, the highest grossing in the chain and always packed with people and especially Wash U students on Sunday.
In any event, Schnucks is doing a great job of getting people to shop in their stores.
But, the company is also unhappy with Walmart who's advertising is using Schnucks pricing as a comparison with theirs. But the way Schnucks is going about their business, I only see success for them.
FYI you can find the Wednesday and Friday special coupons by "liking" Schnucks Markets on Facebook.

Like Schnuck's. They support lots of local projects and groups in the community. Can't really say the same thing about Wal-Mart.

Probably legal restrictions in Illinois like a License that allows serving or requirement that sampling be done in a segregated area for adults only. Or it could just be illegal to give free alcohol. I don't know, just a hunch.

Walmart may be annoying to many businesss and some people, but competition has made the rest more customer friendly.

Well, it could be the Illinois stores will get their turn during the second week. We'll see.
