This has been proven true in every local city which changed over from the small recycling bins to the much larger wheeled carts. Collinsville found this out just recently after going to the big carts in October.
November was the first full month with the new and the numbers are quite amazing. In October, the last month with the small bins 85 tons were picked up on a weekly schedule. In November 154 tons were put out on a twice a month pickup basis.
So fewer pickups but 80 percent more recyclables with the big carts. If the city finds residents are getting so good at recycling that they need every week pickup again, imagine how many tons their would be.

If 154 tons were picked up on a twice monthly basis, that is 308 tons per month. If 85 tons were picked up weekly, that is 340 tons per month. Looks like more was being recycled with the smaller bins!

Not 85 tons a week, 85 tons a month with weekly pick up

Great! Should help to cut down on the overall garbage expense to the city and ultimately the taxpayers will see a savings.

We did not even bother to recycle before..but with the lid we put out all are paper products and along with the cans etc we hardly have any garbage anymore. So here is a person that did not recycle but does now with the new bins.

Ann, it's amazing what those bigger carts can do and for some reason the trash hauler and city actually came up with a list of things that can go in it which makes all the difference.
