Funny. At the senate comfirmation hearings today, Hagel did an absolutely horrible job of trying to convince anyone he's right for the job of Defense Secretary. More than horrible, he looked and sounded not just incompetent, but not very smart.
So most news reports headline today's hearings with the word "harsh" as in Hagel took lots of "harsh" questioning from the GOP senators. Down in the small print you notice the stories mention...quietly...that he did badly.
But amazingly as bad as this was, every expert is still of the believe that he will be confirmed. How can this be? He was bad. Unsure, stumbling, backtracking on his own record and still he'll be confirmed? This is as good a candidate as Obama had or does he just not care? Or is it another of those...
"What difference does it make?"...sort of things

Interesting to see the top positions in the Obama cabinet dominated by white males. Hmmm! I guess diversity is only important to the MSM, when a Republican occupies the White House.

Ron, that's BS and you know it. With the exception of Kerry/Clinton, white males have replaced other white males. For now other minority appointments are staying put. Look for a Hispanic at Labor.
As for Hagel ... Diane do you have a policy problem with Hagel or is this just another MSM rant?? He didn't appear to give any answers during the interrogation that would disqualify him for the position. Still, he was obviously uncomfortable and frustrated: a bad day, but still probably going to be confirmed. Not difficult to understand.

George Bush had a more diverse cabinet than Obama.

Rand, I don't even know how to answer that question. Uncomfortable is a nice way to put it, but he was clearly out of his league and showed no reason why he should be secretary of defense. It's scary. I'd bet there are a lot of dem senators who are wishing they had someone else to vote for.

The Obama administration was not amused. White House officials told CBS’ Major Garrett that they were disappointed with Hagel’s performance. Indeed, one Obama staffer described Hagel’s testimony on Iran as “somewhere between baffling and incomprehensible.”
