Stan Musial died the other day, a St. Louis icon and a man who was respected by everyone in baseball and beyond. St. Louis has had Stan the Man news continuously as you might expect in this baseball town. There's a petition effort underway to name the new Mississippi River bridge after him, you can add your name to the petition by going here.
Anyway, in the spirit of Stan talk, here's our story. A few years ago Dale happened to get into a conversation with a man who was taking a walk past our house. They got to talking baseball and it didn't take long before the man realized Dale was a true and lifelong fan. Maybe the White Sox are number one in his heart, but the Cardinals are second. So the guy mentioned that he was a neighbor of Stan Musial and he was sure Stan would sign a ball for Dale.
Sure enough, a couple days later the same man came by with a Cardinal baseball signed by Stan. After we learned he'd died, Dale knew exactly where the ball was and brought it out.
We've since learned that since his death, anything with Stan Musial's signature will find the cost quite steep. Nice to know, but we'll never let this go.
