Sometimes when you read one story online, you're directed to another story. If this had not happened to me this morning I probably would have missed this forever. In a year end review of 2012 in St. Charles County there was this:
"St. Charles park officials estimated 3,000 dogs were in Frontier Park during the Sept. 28-30 Oktoberfest, even though a 30-year-old ordinance bans pets from city parks during special events."
Can you even imagine this? 3000 dogs over the course of a weekend festival? How was this even possible? Most local city festivals discourage or ban dogs for safety and health reasons and if one or two people didn't get the memo and bring their dogs, the dogs are very noticeable. What would it be like if you were at, say, the Collinsville Horseradish Festival and 3000 dogs attended? This is mindboggling.
After the fest, Aldermen in St. Charles called for stricker enforcement of the no dogs law (or any enforcement LOL) while one alderman wanted to repeal the no dogs law altogether.
The local story of the year IMHO
