That's the amount of money in unpaid bills Illlinois ended 2012 with. Yes, I know, don't end a sentence with a preposition, but how else to say it?
I read last week that the Collinsville School District was considering the closure of Twin Echo school in part because the state of Illinois is behind in sending them 2 million in education monies. That brought to mind last summer's large increase in tobacco taxes in Illinois which was supposed to generate lots more money for education/state revenue.
I guess not. No more than the lottery monies going to Illinois schools helped much. Sounds like the governor is thinking about proposing more taxes to help this shortfall. Seriously. Where do the tax dollars actually go?

Lot's of those tax dollars go to local pork projects and to pay for pensions and retiree health costs promised unrealistically by politicians and now unable to fullfill the promises. Things like free bus rides for all seniors and students. and Medicaid spending, which is soon to get vastly more expensive.
