The upper midwest is in the throes of a severe winter storm, hope you all have your Christmas preparations finished. Fox 2 News reporter Roche Madden has been standing out in the rain and dark since 4 this morning reporting on the weather...in Kirksville. What Kirksville has to do with future St. Louis weather is known only to the powers that be at Fox 2. But it was absurd to watch.
What was I doing up at 4 watching the news? Our power went out around 3:30 ish, at least that is when I noticed it after being awakened by a metal drum beat sound before that time. By 4 I was concerned the power company may not know about us and got dressed and went out with Ferdie hoping to find one of our security people who might check. No one was out, even our environmental services people were not in at that time and here I thought they never ever went home.
Anyhow, while walking back to the house I noticed our outside Christmas lights were on which meant the power was back. Plus, the lights should not have been on in the morning as they are on a timer set to go on at dusk. Weird morning so far.

What does standing outside have to do with forecasting the weather? Have always wondered about the mentality of doing this.
