If you park at a meter in Chicago be prepared to pay more beginning January 1. Loop rates will go up 75 cents to $6.50 an hour, Paid street parking in neighborhoods near the Loop will rise 25 cents and reach $4 an hour. Metered spaces in the rest of Chicago also will increase by a quarter per hour, to $2.
Back in 2008 Mayor Daley's administration leased the parking meters to Chicago Parking Meters, LLC and part of the agreement was yearly mount increases. But lucky for anyone parking in Chicago you won't have to carry a large bag of quarters around with you, the company kindly installed the computerized machines on various blocks in which you put a debit or credit card and a paper receipt comes out. Drivers put this slip of paper on the dashboard so enforcement officials will see it.
Lucky you Chicagoans and visitors.
Clayton has these automated meters but the cost is no where close to Chicago. I mean, $6.50 and hour? That toddling town.

Sounds like the folks of Chicago should be happy. Daley, whom they elected a number of times, raised cash for who knows what, and now the citizens have to pay for many years in the future. Just a look at the future for lots of taxpayers at the local, state, and federal level.
I have never understood, why St.Louis is so backwards on its parking meters by not allowing credit card payment.

Thank heavens many of the companies (including ours)has 'deals' with the parking garages so we can park for $11 for the entire day. But even with that- folks are foolish not to use public transportation. let "Metra' or the 'el' do the driving & parking.
