Back when Joplin was trying to recover from the tornado which destroyed a good part of that city, the Lutheran Church Charities Comfort Dogs made many trips out there. Today two of the dogs will head for the east coast to try and sooth some of the pain of Hurricane Sandy. These dogs can't build back what has been lost, but what they do do is give emotional respite to those who are still without power, without fuel, possibly without a home.
Chloe and Ladel will be on the way. My gosh, Ladel looks so much like Ferdie.
When these dogs walk into a room, it's just amazing the sudden joy people feel and how quickly hands reach out to pet them. On their way to Joplin in June of 2011, Ladel and Magic stopped by KFUO where Ferdie and I went down to say hello. Photos of that morning here. A remarkable job they do, remarkable dogs.
