Whenever the Cardinals do something, all other news in St. Louis takes a back seat and so it is this morning with the announcement that the team will be adding an alternate jersey. This one harks back 80 years to a time when the uniform had the words St Louis under the birds and bat. Then the city name was removed and Cardinals replaced it.
I like this change, when you think about it most of the historic teams have never removed their city named jersey for away games. Cubs, White Sox, New York etc. City pride! Besides which, having the word Cardinals under two cardinals is rather redundant.
However, the team will only wear this shirt during Saturday home games. It's going on sale today and will sell like hotcakes.
