Another study. Researcher found that American adults could increase their life spans by 2 years if they sit for less than 3 hours a day. They also found that limiting TV watching to under 2 hours a day could add 1.4 years to a life.
I don't know about TV watching, maybe they think every one who watches TV sits as opposed to reclines. The reason for cutting back on actual sitting is phyisological. "when you are sitting, your leg muscles (the largest in the body) are completely inactive, which causes problems with how you handle your blood sugar and how you handle cholesterol."
Anyone know if there is a good pedometer app for the iphone? It would be interesting to see how much I walk each day. Sitting would be easy to keep track of, and as a matter of fact, I'm sitting right now as I write this.
