Members of the Chicago Teachers Union voted 91 percent to authorize a strike if the board does not approve their demand for a 30 percent raise. Chicago public schools have jone of the shortest school days of any major city-5.5 hours. Mayor Rahm Emanuel wants to lengthen the school days to 7.5 hours and the teachers union believes a 30 percent raise will compensate them for the extra time.

The Los Angeles school district just took a pay cut and cut the number of school days.
These public employees need to realize the rest of us cannot continue to pay for their generous pay and benefits, while getting average performance acheivement from students.
Retired teachers have an excellent pension and benefits most of us could only dream about.
