According to a survey of high schoolers, 58 percent still believe it is ok to text while driving. They believe that as long as they hold the phone up high enough that they can see the road, it's fine.
What is it going to take before everyone, and not just high school people, realize that looking at your phone while behind the wheel is disastrous? It isn't just teens, you can always tell when anyone is doing something with the phone while driving, and the results aren't pretty.
I'd bet when any of us notice this sort of thing, we give a wide berth to that car. A few weeks ago we were driving along Jamison in south city. Jamison has stop signs every few blocks and while we were stopped at at one of them we heard a loud crash. A car ahead of us left the stop sign while reading or writing something on his phone, verred into the parking lane and smashed into a parked car without having used his brakes at all. The parked car was smushed.
How stupid are we to think we can look at the screen on our phone and still drive? How much damage will we continue to do and how many have to be injured or killed?

It seems to me that the mother whose texting led to an accident and the death of her child should be enough warning to anyone.
