State Comptroller Judy Baar Topinka has created a new website which provides a full accounting of Illinois public dollars.
Named The Ledger, the site will allow you to perform searches on specific revenues, expenditures, and entities, or even track a state employee's salary. You can even send an FOIA request.
No small job pulling this together, but it may be the first stop for anyone wanting financial information on the state of Illinois.

If only more local govenment entities would follow her leadership, the citizens would be better informed about their government.

She has done a good job. I also give her kudos, along with Dan Rutherford, Illinois state treasurer for pushing that the Treasurer & Comptroller offices be combined. Mike Madigan is the hold-out claiming both offices are needed as a 'check & balance' system. Funny how other states & huge corporations have the 1 office, but still have the necessary & effective checks/balances in place. If we could get more folks like them in state offices & the people of Illinois would stop voting for folks like Derrick Smith, Illinois could actually turn stuff around. I have to say, although I was not a fan of Rahm Emmanuel-he has implemented alot of stuff in Chicago that is addressing the abuse that has been rampant among city employees. He is 'actually doing 'what is right & best' & doesn't care if folks don't like it. It has been amazing to see what the 'Chicago Inspector General' has uncovered & they are putting a stop to.
