Did you know that Anheuser Busch released a new beer yesterday? Bud Light Platinum is out just in time for the Super Bowl and will probably be featured in one of the game's commercials.
Thanks to someone here on campus who is always on top of things, I got an opening day preview of the new beer. She also handed me a Super Bowl Bud Light commemorative bottle. Anyway, the first thing that grabs your attention is that the Platinum comes in a pretty blue, glass bottle. Bud Light has been available in blue aluminum bottles but the glass blue is actually a keeper. As a side note, it may be that recycling companies do not want blue bottles which may be an issue down the road.
Most interesting is the fact that this beer has an alcohol content of 6 percent as opposed to the traditional Bud Light which comes in at 4.2. It's been triple filtered and is made with more corn to increase the flavor, alcohol content and color.
While drinking a bottle last night my impression was that the Platinum was much sweeter than normal beers, more like some of the obscure craft beers. But I'll leave the true taste tests to the beer experts. The color of the bottle and the high alcohol content will be what sells early on.
You'll probably be able to find the Bud Light Platinum at local grocery stores this week if you want to try it for yourselves. Oddly I do not see this beer on the A-B website.

I don't like the sweet taste, the slight fruity taste, and the higher alcohol content. I think it is a big mistake to use the name of the largest selling beer in America, "Bud Light" and come out with a new version. Don't fix it if it ain't broke.
