The first ever Iso Fest at Concordia Seminary

With the construction of the new plaza between the dining halls and Isolation Dorm officially known as Founders Hall, students now have a great place to grill meat, eat, drink, listen to music, talk and laugh. Tonight the plaza was the scene of the first ever Iso Fest put on by the single guys.  

Tables were set out on the new plaza, Road Closed signs put up to keep cars away.

Hard to say which football team these guys were pulling for except for maybe Greece.

This was not a hot dog eating contest, but sometimes it looked like it.

Again Ferdie, he enjoyed this Iso Fest.

It was surprising how well the music could be heard from these two speakers.  

It looks like this area of campus will be put to good use a lot this year.  I hear October Fest will be on the plaza.

 

The best baseball story ever

At least the best story in these modern times.  The best story about this past Wednesday nights games, games which people are still talking about.

Don't bother planning a block party in DC

What one woman went through to obtain a permit for a block party in Washington DC.  4 federal agencies got involved and you can imagine the rest if you've ever walked through airport security. 

Wow.  Just wow.

Missouri GOP to caucus

This doesn't sound like fun.  The Missouri GOP has decided to go to a caucus system this primary system, bypassing the primary, although there will be a primary, in favor of a later caucus date.

They believe that having the official results come from a later caucus date than the primary will help them protect their influence in the nominating process.  

But for those of us who vote in these things, this sounds maddening.  We're not Iowa for pete's sake.

"Unlike a primary, where a vote can be quickly cast throughout the day as long as polls remain open, caucusgoers must show up at a specific time for meetings that could last for hours."

Name that car

Everyone loves the car commercial starring the kid in the Darth Vader costume.  But I bet that you can't name the car being touted without a lot of thought.  The story line in that ad is so good you pay no attention to the actual product.

In St. Louis with food from their Homeland

A New York Times story on Bosnian Food and the St. Louis families who have immigrated here.  The story has a slideshow of our local Bosnians and their food.   Did you know more Bosnians live in St. Louis than anywhere outside of Bosnia Herzegovina?  

And I bet when they look away from soccer for a bit, they're all cheering for the Cardinals today.

A primal scream for higher ed regulations

After surveying more than 2,000 higher education officials about which federal regulations they find too burdensome, a federal panel now has its answer: Almost all of them.

The Advisory Committee on Student Financial Assistance on Wednesday released the preliminary findings of its Higher Education Regulations Study, which asked college officials from all sectors of higher education about which of 15 regulations they would change or eliminate.

The result was akin to a primal scream.  Eighty-six percent of officials found regulations under the Higher Education Act burdensome or overly burdensome.

And some people wonder why there are those pushing to abolish the Department of Education.

No more wine vending machines in Pennsylvania

Now this is a funny story, ironic even.  Here's a state in which you are allowed to buy only two 6 packs of beer at any one time, runs the only stores in which you can buy liquor, but has experimented with wine kiosks the past year.

Imagine that.  It's almost impossible to buy beer but residents have been able to put money in a vending machine and get wine.
