The phone rang at 6:15 this morning. It was Dale telling me that the Golden Retriever Comfort Dogs from Lutheran Church Charities were at the radio station giving interviews on their work in Joplin and other places. He said to come over and bring Ferdie.
Don't ask me twice! Ferdie and I were in the car before I even hung up the phone. Do we hang up phones anymore? I guess better to say "before I pushed end call".
What timing! It was just the other day I posted the most endearing photo of three of these comfort dogs sound asleep as they were driven home from working a week in Joplin. I so wanted to see these dogs.
We parked next to their vehicle. Warning. Lots of dog pictures. I just couldn't stop myself.
If I passed them on the highway, I'd be tempted to follow them til they stopped, just to give them a pet.
Ferdie jumped out of our car and the three dogs got acquainted.
Ladel, Magic and Ferdie. Ladel and Magic are on their way to Joplin, the next shift to bring comfort to those in distress.
We took a picture of the dogs and Dale in front of KFUO, Ferdie not quite as used to sitting still for a photo.
KFUO morning host, Paul Clayton came out to see the dogs and see if they were ready to go in and be interviewed along with LCC's Comfort Dog director Tim Hetzner. Tim was inside.
Magic absolutely loved rolling in the cool morning grass near the seminary soccer field.
Meanwhile
Ladel can't seem to get enough loving.
And Ferdie, well, he likes loving too.
Ah. He could get used to this comfort dog stuff.
Come on Magic, get up off the grass and get your picture taken.
Samantha gave Ferdie an empty water bottle. That's all he really needs to be happy.
He went through two water bottles.
Ladel thought that looked kind of interesting, hmm, an empty bottle as a toy.
You can't stop the love that wells up when you see these dogs. You just want to hug them and hug them.
Now they're probably just about ready to head out for Joplin. Such great work these dogs do.
The best morning of the week. Oh give thanks unto the Lord for He is good. His mercies come in many ways and many forms.

This is just so cool.
