Longtime Collinsville high school basketball coach, Virgil Fletcher, died Tuesday night.
During Fletcher's years as the Kahoks Coach, his teams were some of the top teams in the entire country and he built a basketball reputation for Collinsville which continues to this day. Between 1946 and 1978 his teams compiled 747 victories. He put the K in Kahoks.
One thing missing from many of the news reports was that Coach Fletcher was also involved in local politics, having served as a County Board member for many years.
Funeral arrangements:
Visitation at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church from 10 until 1 on Friday followed by the funeral. Burial will be in the Peter and Paul cemetery.

Fletcher coached football and track for until the late 60's.
During his time as football coach, his teams had some good records and some outstanding athletes who went on the fine college careers.
Fletcher other coaching accomplishments are often overlooked, because of his outstanding basketball record.
I was on the track team during Fletcher's years as coach and smile, when I think of an encounter we had similar to Stalling's.
