Ridiculous is too mild a word for what certain media outlets are doing in placing blame for the murder of abortion doctor George Tiller on Sunday.
Murder is never acceptable. Let's get this on the table first. To a Christian, eternal salvation for everyone is the end goal and by murdering someone, the opportunity for repentance and forgiveness is gone. The gift of eternal life is beyond our comprehension, even the worst of us have the chance until we breath our last.
Olbermann accused Fox's Bill O'Reilly of inciting the murder: "Fox News Channel will never restrain itself from incitement to murder and terrorism – not until its profits begin to decline, when its growth stops." A totally insane rant. Should someone get on TV and blame Olbermann for the soldier also killed on Sunday by a man with "political and religious motives?"
The New York Times joined the same theme today with a story headlined: "Doctor's Killer Is Not alone in the Blame, some say." "Within hours of the shooting that left Dr. Tiller dead on Sunday, Mr. O’Reilly found himself under attack from liberal journalists and bloggers who accused him of inciting violence. By early Monday, some Web sites were asking, as a newsletter from the Air America radio network did, “Is Bill O’Reilly to Blame for Murder Of Kansas Doctor?"
Then there's this throw away line from the June issue of Washingtonian Magazine. The article spotlights the 50 top journalists based in DC. One of them is Fox's Carl Cameron. "Fox. Whatever you think of his network, players on both sides of the aisle trust "Campaign Carl" and know that his reporting is second to none."
I dove into the rest of the 50 with a more jaundiced eye after reading that. No where was there any snide remark about who the rest of them worked for and undoubtedly, the same might well have been said about any of those working for MSNBC.
Liberal hypocrisy in full throat.

The same liberal media that annointed, I mean all voted, Obama into office. No wonder they can't report objectively.
You are right Diane, liberal hypocrites. But most liberals/progressives are hypocrites.

Typical of right wing whiners. A terrorist has struck in Kansas and you're blogging about what someone is saying about poor Bill O'Reilly and Fox News. This whine is getting very old.

Rand, I have heard no thoughtful discussion of this murder, all I've heard is who influenced this guy. Could it be he was an irrationally obsessive person who did this on his own? The abortion topic is too emotional on both sides for any kind of rational debate.

Diane, I just googled and read (and viewed video of) some of O'Reilly's comments on Tiller. How can you possibly suggest Olbermann has said or done ANYTHING to incite what happened Sunday? O'Reilly has repeatedly gone after this one individual with vengeance and venom. Olbermann has never said anything I've heard or read derogatory or inciteful against our service personnel.
I agree that this terrorist in Kansas probably acted alone. But he could very easily have been incited by someone like O'Reilly. Please explain to me how you think the trigger man Sunday could have been incited by Olbermann.

So I never thought I would defend Bill'O Reilly, and I feel like a Crying Game -esque shower is in my near future because of this but here goes... People can say whatever they want even if it is crazy-right-wing-demagoguery. To blame this man for a crime, simply because of something he said is Anti-American, even if something he said was the sole reason why the crime was committed. Which it probably wasn't-- either way that is unquantifiable. This is not to say that rhetoric cannot inspire violence, it absolutely can but the Bill Bashing is out of line. There is a great video about the Tiller murder and the debate it has touched off here if you want more : http://www.newsy.com/videos/the_killing_of_george_tiller
