The state of Illinois, the governor, probably the legislature have plans to increases sales taxes at an alarming rate, on just about everything. Lets look at a few, by the numbers.
13: Cents on a bottle of wine
80: Cents on a bottle of liquor
0: Cents on beer, gotta take care of the average Joe Sixpack. Update below
20: Dollars for a drivers license. Double the current renewal rate.
??: Unknown coming increase in other vehicle fees
6.25%: Coming state sales tax on items long considered as providing relief and taxed at 1% such as shampoo, soap, hygiene products
6.25%: The same rise for items considered food and taxed at 1%
4.5%: Personal income tax rate, up from the current 3%
7.2%: Business tax, up from current 4.8
45,000: possible poker machines for bars, restaurants, truck stops and VFWs and American Legions
500: Million dollars in estimated revenue for the poker machines
Updated: Now senate president John Cullerton is planning to ask that beer drinkers not be left out and is asking for a 2.6 percent sales tax increase on 6 packs of beer.

Infortunately many business owners / operators are thinking the same way. Government (federal, state, and local) needs to spend less money, not collect more taxes.

RE "Missouri gets more attractive every day," based on what? The top Missouri income tax rate would remain well above the Illinois rate even if the governor's tax plan was implemented. Competitiveness concerns are certainly worth thinking about, but "crying wolf" is pointless.

That's the liberal democrats for ya. Good at two things - death (abortions) and taxes. Meanwhile the Republicans are at least trying to go the other way on death (prevent abortions, keep planetary peace, high minded stuff like that you know) and of course lower taxes!
