Illinois governor, Rod Blagojevich gets to choose who will take over Barack Obama's senate seat when he is sworn in as president. It appears that the line of those really really really wanting the job is long, and why not. Who wouldn't want to become a senator without having to go through all the work and money required in a campaign.
The one name singled out by many news outlets as wanting the job the most is Jesse Jackson, Jr. His name is mentioned so often that even the downstate Madison County Record site had a poll asking whether readers think Jesse Jackson, Jr. will be appointed. The votes thus far are: Yes-49%, other-31%, other-20%.
The poll is closed so it's difficult to say who these "others" were.

Republicans can only hope Jackson Jr. will get the appointment and have to run in two years, with his dad out campaigning for him.

Hopefully the GOPers won't nominate some Rudy Giuliani liberal, or Steve Sauerberg to run against the Dems.

I would welcome Jesse Jr as my senator. I've been very impressed with him as a person and as my congressman. He is NOT Jesse Sr, and does not, in fact, rely or lean on Sr. The limited personal dealings I've had with Jr would lead me to vote for him without hesitation if and when it comes to that.
Let's hope that Blago surprises everyone by doing something he's not known for - making a good decision.
Where is Alan Keyes these days anyway.

Alan Keyes. While Illinois tries to forget Alan Keyes, Kukimbia remembers.
What a nightmare that was.
