Napolitano to head Department of Homeland Security

Another Obama appointment, Arizona Governor, Janet Napolitano will be the new head of Homeland Security.

Hearing her name mentioned reminded me of a story which ran in the October 15, 2007 Newsweek which spotlighted two women governors, Janet Napolitano and Sarah Palin.

Reading this story now, you'd never believe Palin was the same person who became the republican candidate for VP.  A year ago she was given high praise for her work in Alaska, this year all that was forgotten or ignored.

I tend to believe the original story written before either of these two women were candidates for high office or cabinet positions.  It most likely means Governor Napolitano is a very able person, ready to tackle the Homeland Security post.

Update Friday:  A New York Times profile on the Arizona governor.

Arizona, not New Mexico

The Republican Secretary of State will assume the job of Governor. Important in this state for redistricting and the 2010 elections.
