Once again the democrats control the house and the senate, a feat they accomplished in 2006. Currently all the talk among the political pundits is that the republicans are rudderless and may remain that way for a long time, leaving congress to the opposition for who knows how long.
But, remember back in 2002? The republicans gained control of both houses and all the talk then was that the democrats were a party in disarray, a situation which might last for a generation. How long did that really go on? 2 years? 4 years?
Not long at all.
The republicans first got the majority of both houses after the 1994 mid term elections, lost the senate briefly and then regained it. Previous to that it was 1952 before the republicans had a house majority. I'd look for a serious post mortem on the state of the republican party and then a concerted effort to get themselves back in the conversation.
