As unbelievable as the Minnesota senate race is, Alaska's takes the cake.
Ted Stevens is leading by 3 or 4 thousand votes, depending on which story you read.
Wasn't he convicted of something?
Can Sarah Palin replace him with herself if he goes to jail?
Probably not.





Likely scenario is that Senate Dems will vote to expel; Reps will join in (how can they not?) which triggers a special election - if I understand correctly no appointment. (Palin wins hands down.)
Unlike Pennsylvania and Maine where Obama could appoint Specter, Snowe, or Collins to a cabinet post and (assuming they accept) the Governor appoints a replacement. Net result would be to flip another Senate seat. (No doubt Rendell would appoint himself).
