Post-Dispatch endorsements

Thinking back on the P-D's endorsement of Barack Obama, one line in the editorial gnaws at me just a bit.

"In making political endorsements, this editorial page is guided first by the principles espoused by Joseph Pulitzer in The Post-Dispatch Platform printed daily at the top of this page."

Ok, top of the page.  Well, in the paper anyhow, not really on the website.  Pulitzer's quote:  "I know that my retirement will make no difference in its cardinal principles, that it will always fight for progress and reform, never tolerate injustice, always fight demagogues of all parties, never belong to any party...."

That last few words is where many take issue with the Post.  How many years have they been making endorsements and come out in support of mainly democrats?  So let's see the rest of the Missouri and local Illinois ballots and make some predictions as to what the Post will do in the coming weeks.

My guess as to future P-D endorsements.

Missouri governor--Jay Nixon (D)

Lieutenant Governor--Sam Page (D)

Secretary of State--Robin Carnanhan (D)

State Treasurer--Clint Zweifel (D)

Attorney General--Chris Koster (D)

U.S. Representative District 1--Lacy Clay (D)

U.S. Representative District 2--Todd Akin (R)

U.S. Representative District 3--Russ Carnahan (D) and, I have to insert here, Carnahan is our representative and we have never see the guy, never get mail, never see any news stories on him, it's like he doesn't exist.  Lacy Clay, not our rep, is more interested in this area than Russ Carnahan.  I have no idea why he will be re-elected.

District 4--Ike Skelton (D)

District 5--No idea, but it will probably be Emanuel Cleaver II (D)

District 6--Kay Barnes (D)

District 7--I want to say Roy Blunt but it will probably be Richard Monroe (D) whoever he is.

District 8--Jo Ann Emerson (R)

District 9--Judy Baker (D)

Enough of Missouri, how about the Post's endorsement for the Illinois side

U.S. Senate--Dick Durbin (D)

U.S. Representative District 12--Jerry Costello (D)

U.S. Representative District 19--John Shimkus (R), let me add here, I can't imagine even the Post endorsing a 25 year old kid.  I hope I'm right.
