Remember September 11
On this the 7th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, a new memorial honoring the 184 people who died at the Pentagon in Washington will be opened. There are benches made for sitting, constructed in Pevely Missouri of dark stainless steel and arranged in order by the age of the victims-3 to 71.
The benches look something like diving boards-rustproof, cantilevered arcs of stainless steel measuring 14 feet long, each weighing 1100 pounds and secured to the ground at one end. Each is engraved with a victim's name and sits above a small reflecting pond. Names engraved together at the memorial are separated. To read the names of those who died inside the Pentagon, one has to look down. To read the name of those who died on the plane, one must look up.
In 2006, the 5th anniversary of 9-11, a nationwide group of bloggers agreed to highlight the life of one of the 2996 people who died. I wrote a piece on Walter Matuza of Staten Island, New York. We often remember the big picture, the horror, but overlook look the individuals who suffered and died, people with family and friends who loved them and miss them still. Once more-Walter Matuza-husband, father of three boys, coach, son, friend.

May God bless the families who lost loved ones on September 11th.
