Politics and the media
Updated: The Ace of Spades weighs with a thorough look.
The journalistic world is playing a large role in this presidential election. The largest role the major media is playing is obviously slanted toward Barack Obama. Hillary Clinton found this out the hard way and the McCain campaign is learning day by day.
There are many examples of the role sexism is used and has been used to good effect, but here is one more. The New York Times gave generally good reviews of Sarah Palin's convention speech, but in an adjoining report on the challenges of governing Alaska, the hard copy paper edition chose to run this photo.
Of all the options available, why this one?
I'm not even having to try hard to find examples of this, just as Hillary did not have to try hard to find the same during her campaign. Sexism aside, and it has been used to good effect by the Obama campaign and their fans in the press corps, just watching the reaction to some of these network people last night was enough to know just how much they want Obama to win. They were not happy with a good speech by Sarah Palin. Compare and contrast Andrea Mitchell's reporting and interviewing after the Palin and Obama speeches.
Keith Olbermann said he had to stop talking after Obama's speech because he was becoming syncophantic. Oh, yeah.

Palin's speech was a grand slam home run. As I commented the other day, Democrats should be very scared about Sarah Palin.

The charges of sexism seem to me as just a way to try to insulate Gov. Palin from any criticism. She's a big girl, I'm sure she can take care of herself being such a maverick and all.
I can't help but think about the dozens of GOPers that would have made a better choice, both men & women. Wonder how Mitt, Rudy and my boy Huckebee really feel?
When it comes right down to it the VP candidate isn't really a deciding factor for most voters as I think about such yawners as Qualye, Leibermann, Gore, etc.
All this outrage seems a little out of place. When are we going to hear about the issues?
