All the political pundits are obsessed with the question. Who will Barack Obama choose as his running mate?
For republicans, an even more important question should be, Who will John McCain choose as his running mate?
McCain is in desperate need of energy and vitality, youth and charisma whether he knows it or not.
The only place McCain is on anything like an even footing with Obama is in the style of their websites. But that is not translating into money for McCain or interest from voters.

I'd love to be on the inside when Veep considerations are discussed, with either. So many considerations (big state? small state? battleground state? who does he/she bring to the voting booth? etc.). Selections, good and bad, can come from left field (Quayle) or more mainstream. It's fun thinking about it and in the end we'll almost all be wrong. Maybe Obama's committee will follow Bush43's lead and pick Caroline Kennedy? I say that jokingly, not what I'd want. Since Dems and Obama have made some inroads in the Rocky Mountain region, I wonder about someone like Schweitzer or Tester from Montana. Tho neither have a lot of experience and one would think Obama needs to find someone experienced just as McCain would do well to go with someone younger and energetic.
Well, guess we'll have a few months to speculate.

What's the old political saying? A VP running-mate can't help you but he/she can hurt you. But this year each of the nominees does need a strong counterbalance. Obama needs experience and gravitas while McCain needs someone with energy, personality, experience. McCain needs that polar opposite more than Obama, however.
