Re votes in Florida and Michigan
The Florida primary re-vote appears dead because as state party chairman Karen Thurman said yesterday, "The consensus is clear: Florida doesn’t want to vote again. So we won’t." If a new election does not happen, who does this benefit? "This is a real setback for Hillary, who could have gotten both delegates, momentum, and -- crucially -- a stronger chance to claim a popular vote lead out of the revote." According to Ben Smith. But who really knows.
In Michigan, a re-vote faces two obstacles, 1. The new legisation setting up the vote "would require a supermajority in the Republican-controlled State Senate, which also includes Obama supporters who are skeptical of a re-vote." And, 2. The new law would forbid those who voted in the former republican primary from voting, "about 32% of the those who vote in the GOP primary, according to the exit polls, were Democrats or independents. It's a fair bet that many of them were Obama supporters, as he was not on the original Michigan ballot."
It's still a mess. The elephant donkey in the room in Michigan remains the fact that Obama was not on the ballot, nor was Edwards. Only Clinton put her name on the ballot.
